The real indicator that tells the story of a vehicle&#8217;s value for money, especially in local public transport, is the <strong>Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)<\/strong>, i.e. the total cost of ownership in the long term. The TCO is not limited to the list price but considers all expenses associated with the operating life, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Energy costs<\/strong> (fuel or electricity)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maintenance and repairs<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Cost of charging infrastructure<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Vehicle lifetime and residual value<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the local public transport sector, the adoption of <strong>battery electric buses (BEBs)<\/strong> is becoming increasingly popular due to the competitive advantage offered by a lower TCO compared to conventional diesel buses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why is the TCO of electric buses lower than that of the endothermic engine?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many public transport operators evaluate BEBs with a traditional approach, focusing on the initial purchase cost, which is generally higher than for diesel vehicles. However, the TCO shows that the overall cost of an electric bus is <strong>more advantageous in the long run<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udd39 <strong>1. Lower energy costs<\/strong><br \/>Electricity has a lower and more stable cost than diesel, significantly reducing the expense of refuelling. Lower maintenance costs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The mechanical simplicity of a BEB is an often underestimated advantage. No oil changes, no exhaust system to maintain, brakes that last longer thanks to regenerative braking. The result?
