Low Emission Vehicles (ULEVs)

Low Emission Vehicles (ULEVs)

« Back to Glossary Index

An Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) is a motor vehicle, electric but not only, that emits significantly less pollutants (up to 70-80% less than permitted by law) than a conventional vehicle.
ULEVs are designed to reduce environmental impact through innovative technologies and represent a milestone in the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable mobility.
The most prominent example of ULEV low-emission vehicles are electric cars. These use an electric motor powered by rechargeable batteries, completely eliminating polluting emissions. The efficiency of electric motors is significantly higher than internal combustion engines.
Other low-emission vehicles are hybrid cars, which combine a conventional internal combustion engine with an electric motor. These vehicles recover energy during deceleration and braking to recharge the batteries and power the electric engine. This results in greater efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions.
